Bright Fog

Bright Fog

The morning sun of January
rubs against the mountain fog
creating a pearly canvas
for bare tree limbs
woven into intricate patterns
of lace to send their secrets
across the empty sky.
Without the sun
the fog would envelop
their signatures and without
the fog, the sun would burn
away the mystery.
It is in the bright fog that we travel,
in this place between
unknowing and revelation,
and take our balance,
one foot leading the other.
